Strreo-Typing II

Different woman (Caucasian again), different stereotype, same Brotha (me).

A woman approaches me before asking how I am doing, before asking my name, before asking me anything, and goes into a story about how she needs money to get fuel for her car to go home. She then explains that she'll get my phone number and call me later to meet me to pay me back. I'm standing there looking at her, saying nothing, and she takes on a very frustrated look asks and says, "Man, do you speak English? I just talked to another guy for ten minutes and he spoke Mexican, he didn't even know what I was saying!"

I replied, "¿Que?" with a very puzzled look on my face.

She throws her hands up, says, "Oh dear G-d!" and then walks away!

Sometimes stereotypes can work to ones advantage.

In the News

What do I love most about working with the public? That's right... The PEOPLE.

A more mature gentleman approached me while I was working and asked me if I had heard the latest news. I told him that I had not. Therefore, he began to tell me about the breaking news:

"An 85 year old man in Avery County was arrested for trying to rape a young woman this morning," he said.

I replied with, "Wow!"

Then the gentleman closer to 80, (by a few years) than myself said, "They caught him before he could do anything."

Relieved I said, "Well that's good."

He concluded his news briefing to me saying, "Yeah, fortunately they caught him, and charged him... assault with a dead weapon!"

I laughed out loud and scared a more mature woman standing nearby. This joke was by far better than the joke that ended our last conversation with the question, "That wasn't so funny was it?"

Again I wonder what things will come out of my mouth if I am blessed with golden years.

No Magic Act Today

Lord I want to thank You for the completion of the first phase. The LGM (a.k.a, The Little Green Men) took care of stealing game one away from Merlin's boys. There was no Magic act today! I think all of the basketball faithful in Orlando were left scratching their heads today. Now Lord if You could arrange it so the Lakers could beat up on the Suns (in a basketball sense) worse than Tim Duncan's shot on Steve Nash, we'll be in business! Thanks again Lord. See you in LA tomorrow. ;)
