Futbol Trash Talkin' 101

If it fits throw it in... it is trash talking after all!

A proud parent protest a call yelling at a ref in a high school soccer game. No obscenities, just a, "Hey now!" The ref turns a def ear, does not oblige and let's them play on.
The mouthy student player that got away with the foul, yells at the parent with, "That's how you play the game!"

The parent replies, "With no fouls, c'mon now!?"

Player fires back, "It's a contact sport!"

Parent says, "Did you say contact? Cause I put contacts in my eye, but don't put my eye out in doing so!"

In other words for the nonsports fan, he was pushing and leaning a tad too much. Beyond what any regulations, or rules allow, so he got away with one.

Even the ball girls were disrespectful. On our throw ins we had to wait on the ball girls to get us a ball, or retrieve the balls ourselves. Just poor, poor sportsmanship. They let balls go on our end of the field, and lolli-gagged to get a ball for us, until yours truly started to help them. Then when another parent rolled me a ball to prepare for a throw in, the ball girl was dead on me, asking for a ball. Where was she when the balls were going out of bounds before I got there? I hate to sound rude, but if you had been there you would have seen first hand, that she was having game conversation with the ref. Pertaining to the game of soccer or not, he being an adult, and a paid official, should have refrained and called the game. The lead official kept peace, and actually asked her line judge to keep his eyes on the field, so I have to give her props! She did a good job, now if she only had respectable help...

Speaking of respect, you know when I was coming up we respected our elders. And don't you go throwing any cave man day jokes at me either! Seriously, we took pride in doing the right thing. Wonder what kind of system and student athletes we'd have if these kids realized (like my generation realized) that they could be sitting at home, wishing they were playing organized ball instead of being disrespectful and allowed to play? Wonder what kind of system we'd have if coaches and parents actually instilled the discipline in their players/children to keep it (it being body, game, and attitude),on the field, or to get off of the field? What kind of system would we have if players took it upon themselves to play like they loved the game, their school, the county in which they represented, and last but not least,  the coaches and parents that loved them enough to make sacrifices for them to play?

We may have lost the game tonight (2-0 second goal was a trash goal), but it was good to see that we got in his head and gave him something to think about for the next game! Plus the ref allowed him to get knocked on his duff a couple of times too, and that was really good to see him get a taste. He ate a little sod on a clean played ball, and beautiful slide tackle. He moaned and groaned at the ref, and she motioned for him to get up, and as if to say, you asked for it, you got it, now play on! One other parent and myself yelled out after that play, "Now that's how you play soccer!" Can't wait to serve them some home cooking in October! Bring it!!!

Yes, I admit it, I was the one that stooped to trash talking after being trash talked to, and playing the mind game when invited to do so! I love my guys, and have to let them know it! October here we come, and yes the mouth is coming with me!

Saturday Shocking & Not So Shocking Sports

First of all I got to sleep in! Huge bonus! Then I was able to take my middle son to meet with his career coach. This FBI gig, is looking pretty sweet! Then back home for last minute preps and on to Beech Mtn! The Dual Slalom National Championships took place today. I got to meet super fast, (and eventual National Champion if he keeps riding like he is) Neko Mulally! The guys in Waterloo know how to pick winners! Neko came to the finish line today, like none of the other racers dared to! The first photo is a happy medal winning Neko Mulally, the second photo is the finish line set up with photo finish cams, and the last photo shows you the double jump, and finish line. Neko (without a 250cc motor) cleared the double, while most everyone (99.%) went around the doubles. Neko borught the house down and had the crowds screaming to the tops of their lungs when he tail whipped his Trek smoothly over the double jump! Neko was later labeled, Neko "Mr. X_Citement" Mulally. Great ride from the young Pennsylvania Trek star.
Neko Kicking butt on a Trek... Normal, so that was your not so shocking...

My Tar Heels, made a few mistakes, but still played a Nationally ranked conference opponent, and held their own. 28-35 to #25 GT, yeah, yeah I'll take that! But how about Clemson knocking off FSU!? Yikes! The Tigers brought the A game, but will they be able to shake of the South Carolina jinx and keep moving forward? There is your "a bit shocking news..."

Last but not least current UFC Light Heavy Weight Champ, Johnny "Bones" Jones, took out former UFC Light Heavy Weight Champ, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Jones wore Jackson down. Jones used his versatility to keep Jackson at length, and slowly wore him down. A series of knees, and a couple of complaints from Jackson, then a few elbows, and leg strikes, and Jones kept Jackson at bay. The fourth round was the most fatal, and Jones put Jackson down near the cage. Jackson tired, and trying to get to his feet and retaliate was caught by a spry Jones, who quickly attacked Jackson, and mounted from behind, and forced Jackson to tap after being place in a rear naked choke! Can you say, Evans you're next? Evans is a bit more agile, than Jackson, but nowhere near as versatile as Jones. I don't see anyone but Jones defeating Jones for a long, long time! Rampage tapping!? OK to me shocking! Not that he lost to a great champion, but that he being who he is, and tapping... shocking!

Down Hill tomorrow at Beech Mtn! More Treks, more National Champions to crown! If you are reading this later on Sunday morning, get up, wash your face, eat on the way out of the house, and bring your fun face to the mountain top! Beautiful view, great racing, and fun with the fam! How can you go wrong?

Changes...

Change in crown holder.

Fabian Cancellara is no longer the man to beat as a Time Trial Specialist. He has abdicated his throne for German rider, HTC Specialized Time Trial beast and new king Tony Martin. Fabian rode hard in the Grand Tours, in both the Tour de France, and the Vuelta (Tour of Spain) and only relinquished his title in 2008 because of the Olympics, and a tough Grand Tour Schedule that year. This year, a well trained and very fit Tony Martin, had his way! not once but 5 times! Fabian had a few slips, trying to override, and his mistakes proved to be costly, but in all honesty, the slips that he had going all out, showed that he was determined but knew that Martin had swag for a reason! The Big Swiss did not go quietly, but nevertheless had to settle for a bronze medal this year. So my Win didn't win, and my show didn't show, but my place was dead on! I had a feeling that Wiggins was gong to be on fire, but just not have quite enough to pull off the major upset. Realistically I expected Martin to win, but as a Cancellara fan, and as a Trek fan, my bias blinded me. Here are the final results of the 2011 ICU World Championship Time Trial:

1 Tony MARTIN (Gold Medalist & new World Champion) GER GER 26 53:43.85
2 Bradley WIGGINS (Silver Medalist) GBR GBR 31 +1:15.83
3 Fabian CANCELLARA (Bronze Medalist) SUI SUI 30 +1:20.59
4 Bert GRABSCH GER GER 36 +1:31.76
5 Jack BOBRIDGE AUS AUS 22 +2:13.86
6 Richie PORTE AUS AUS 26 +2:29.54
7 David MILLAR GBR GBR 34 +2:45.62
8 Lieuwe WESTRA NED NED 29 +3:18.52

Change in team.

Levi signs with Quickstep Merckx... This is not quite the Darrell Waltrip leaving Chevy, and going to Ford for me, but still wished that Levi could have finished his career with Trek. Not to say that he can't still, but at 38 and a two year deal... the Giro, Amgen Tour of Cali, Tour de France, USA Pro Cycling Challenge, or the Vuelta, will put the miles on a body in a hurry. Actually, in a months time with each race, or at the very least a very grueling week (Tour of Utah/California/Colorado) of it anyway!

Remember when franchise owners were loyal, and players were too? When you stayed in the city that loved you, raced for the fans that loved you? Well there are those fans again... The fair weather, manufacturer, player/driver, fan. I am a little partial to all the above. Levi being an American rider, is one of my favs, and I love the Trek brand! So this is a tough one for me, but I will still pull for Levi. It would be hard for me to pull against him. But then again, it is hard for me to pull against the guys and gals from Waterloo also!

Change of character?
The British are not shy in cycling in most cases, that's for sure, but was this Wiggins talking a bit out of class today? This is usually a trait displayed by Mr. Cavendish. Cavendish is usually the bold one, doing the trash talking or calling shots...
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/wiggins-suggests-tour-de-france-and-olympics-are-too-much-for-cavendish?ns_campaign=news&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_source=cyclingnews&ns_linkname=0&ns_fee=0

The Road Race is tomorrow, and there are plenty of men that could be World Champion.
Thor Hushovd, Andy Schleck, Phillipe Gilbert, Jakob Fulgsang could all come away with the title. Or could the Time Trial specialist do it, with the rolling hills? If so watch out for Wiggins, or TT Champion Tony Martin. And if it is not a rain soaked day, and the switchbacks don't affect them, then you could see the sprinters bring it home... Sagan, Bennati, or even Rui Costa. I am hoping for a close race, and a major upset! Bring on Trek and Mr. King!!! That would be a lovely week of UCI World Championships.

THE World Champion is...

UCI Elite Mens Elite Time Trial World Championship Shed - You'll (Schedule)

First Group starting with the first rider (Azzedine Lagab of Algeria) will start at 12:30pm. The last twenty riders and highest favored riders will start at 2:48pm and work their way out of the gate in a minute and a half increments.

20 HERRADA LOPEZ Jesus ESP
19 TUFT Svein CAN
18 RABON Frantisek CZE
17 FARIA DA COSTA Rui Alberto POR
16 KIRYIENKA Vasil BLR
15 BRAJKOVIC Janez SLO
14 BOBRIDGE Jack AUS
13 GRABSCH Bert GER
12 LARSSON Gustav SWE
11 WIGGINS Bradley GBR
10 PINOTTI Marco ITA
9  WESTRA Lieuwe NED
8  OLIVEIRA Nélson POR
7  FUGLSANG Jakob DEN
6  PORTE Richie AUS
5  PHINNEY Taylor USA
4  IGNATYEV Mikhail RUS
3  MILLAR David GBR
2  MARTIN Tony GER
1  CANCELLARA Fabian SUI

Tony Martin is heavily favored after dominating in the TT's in both the Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain) and the Tour de France.

I personally hope to see US rider Taylor "Mini" Phinney do well, and hope the Trek riders do well also. I don't know that Phinney is ready to pull off a World Championship victory just yet, but stranger things have happened. Win, Place, and Show pays bragging rights to your buddies. The exacta pays the big bucks and gets ya some big time pull. So here's my Exacta for the Top 7 finishers, and my Win (Gold), Place (Silver), and Show (Bronze) medalist:

Some believe the rain will help the bigger more powerful riders, on the rolling streets of Copenhagen. Some say that the technical riders will fair better. Me personally I think the mind games have already begun, and it is now a matter of who handles the nerves best.

10. Canadian - Svein Tuft Canadian National Champion
9. Aussie - Jack Bobridge Australian Champion ***Road Race***
8. Swed - Gustav Larsson Swedish National Champion
7. Portuguese - Nelson Oliveira Portuguese National Champion
6. American - Taylor Phinney US National Champion
5. Australian - Richie Porte
4. German - Tony Martin German National Champion
3. Brit - Tony Millar (Bronze)
2. Brit - Bradley Wiggins (Silver) British National Champion
1. The Big Swiss - Fabian Cancellara (Gold) Swiss National Champion

Mostly National Champions, and winner of some very impressive stages. But that is my Exacta. Fabian is well rested, and has said that he believes that Martin is the winner, but that this is also a one day event, that he believes he can win. I think in the most humble way that he knew how to say it, he was truly saying: I am not 4 time World Champ for nothing...

Martin has ridden strong in TT's this year claiming two of the Grand Tour TT Stages. That is not to be taken lightly, but he also had the luxury of saving himself for just those stages. Wiggins put in a full Tour, and I believe he is still hungry. Their are a couple of experienced riders in this group that are 30 or better (Fabian Cancellara and Gustav Larsson), and you know what they say about age, and treachery versus youth and cockiness right? Well if you don't and my prediction comes to its fruition, then you will after tomorrow... I don't foresee a blowout, in fact I anticipate that this will be one of the closest races in the history of the World Championships. Again we shall see after tomorrow.

We Dream, We Live, We Believe

Don't just say you believe. Show that you believe.

We believe that what we think is right, when it's really all wrong...
We believe that what we sing is music, when we really have no song...
We believe that we climb the mountain, when the mountain is climbing us...
We believe that we are Trekking, when we can't even afford to ride the bus!

Dream while you sleep, Live while you're awake!

My Yellow jersey, will come with completing a few tasks for my family today. My team will reach the podium when we all finish with the agenda that's at hand. Run the race with faith, and let your steps be that of the righteous, let them be ordered from a Power so high, that nothing can bring you down!

See you on the black top and the trail, until we hit the streets of Gold... Peace

1st & 4 Most

There are first for everything, but there is truly only one Al Davis! Raida's baby! First is Big Al, then the other three that make up my four most appreciated sports memories of the past week.

Al "was" a football genius in his hay day. His head is so hard now, that someone shot him in the forehead, and it ricocheted off. Couple of band-aids later, and Al is putting the Jedi Mind Trick on John Fox. But it appeared that Coach Jackson did his own play calling with no interference. Speaking of which...

Coaching firsts:
Coach Fox departed from Carolina to take on the job at Denver. In his debut as the Broncos general, Coach Fox and the Denver Broncos, would match up with conference rivals on Monday night for their first game of the season. They took on rookie head coach Hue Jackson and the Oakland Raiders. Here's the game in a 30 second, tell your co-workers, before the foreman gets back to shop, review:

In The Record Books:
The Broncos struck first with creating a turnover, that led to an early field goal. Then the Raiders struck back with a punt block, and advanced the ball down the field from their 40 something, on 8 plays that was capped off by a Campbell to Reece pass for a touchdown. Then another turnover a fumble gave the Raiders prime field position. The Broncos, however, held on D, and the Raiders had to settle for a field goal. OK you can go to the box score on www.espn.com for all the stats, but here's the good stuff, McFadden looked good, and broke a season opening rushing record for the Raiders with 150 yards. Sebastian Janikowski tied the NFL record for longest field goal, with a sixty three yarder. And Coach Hue Jackson won his first game as a head coach. This guy is always smiling too! Except in the picture that I used of him above the one in this paragraph.

Tom Brady threw for a Monday Night Record, and if I am not mistaken tied the record for an opening day passing yardage record, with 517 in the air.

Firsts Again:
Back to the college rankings. Coach Everett Withers has won his opener and second game of the season as the University of North Carolina Tar Heels new skipper. He has some work ahead of him, but I think the Heels with Coach Withers will fair just fine.

Then back to my beloved sport of Cycling! Daniele Bennati won his first stage at the Vuelta, and in all honesty, if he had ridden a bit tougher and not given way to another cyclist (Team Lampre rider Alessandro Petacchi) trying to psych, and edge him out, then he should have won the last two stages. Not to take anything away from Peter Sagan, a three stage winner with the last stage win. However, I feel that if Bennati had stayed on his horse, and not been timid, he could have won. I know it's a lot easier said than done, I wasn't the one traveling at 30 mph per hour with a wire and foam cage for a helmet, and lycra for second skin on my tush. Plus those metal barriers can be detrimental to the human body as well. So Bravo on the first stage win, and on the multiple podium finishes for Bennati! Stay strong learn from this, and hopefully I can witness several more sprint victories of this awesome rider on a Trek in the years to come!

Feelings, Nothing More Than Feelings...

You ever just get one of those feelings? Some are good, and some not so good. Well watching in camp during drills, it appeared that Cam being hurried, and shown blitz packages struggled. But the struggle was a good struggle. One play Cam hit Sutton in the back with a pass on a blitz. Cam got rid of the ball quick, but with a great corner, that could have been six going the other way. So at times, the timing was a bit off, but when they studied, and talked things over, Cam never came out with his head down. His attitude was always fiery! On the next series of downs Coach Rivera had the D rushed him again in, and he lobbed the ball perfectly, perfect spiral, and just enough air under the ball, to Clowny who scored a 60+ yard TD! The one thing that scares me about Cam, is his attitude, and fire! Well it get him into trouble off of the field. I still do not like the fact, that he and his father flirted with NCAA violations, but that is now a thing of the past, and hopefully it, and any other situations like it stay there. I think Steve Smith likes him, as well as the Black Cat Club. I am a fan, just not as optimistic of a fan as I would be like to be, because if the trust issues. But hey, it's not like I haven't been given a second chance a gazillion times!

The UCI World Championship in Denmark will wrap up all of the major events for this cycling season. Fabian Cancellara will go for his fifth title on his third brand of machine. I am praying that he can win the fifth on the Trek, but there will be some young guns looking to dethrone him this year for sure. Tony Martin looks like he will be very tough to beat this year. I guess we will see on Sept 21st. GO Trek GO!

Well hate to leave a party short lived, but the next one is about to crank up soon... Raiders-Broncos y'all. Are You Ready For Some Football...

Nueve y Once con mi bicicleta

Will this be a familiar site for the final stage? Will the sprinter (Daniele Bennati) have a shot at two straight and close out the Vuelta with a strong showing for self, and the team that he wishes to ride for in the up coming years? Onto find out... Hasta la huego, y vayan con Dios!

Upsets, Upset, & Set Ups...

Upsets & Set ups of the day:

I don't really see Auburn, at home, beating a 16th ranked Mississippi State as that much of an upset.
Auburn 42 MSU 37.NC State fans being upset over losing Russell Wilson, and watching him take care of business behind that huge Badger offensive line, now that I can see being upsetting for sure! If things continue the way they are in the Big 20 (or wait how many schools are in that conference now?) then Wisconsin could not only come away with a conference championship, but play for their first football national title as well. Michigan State bounced back and put points on the board today, while shutting out FIU, to try and save face in the process. However, against an opponent like Florida International, most would say that the margin of victory could have been a much worse, but hey a win is a win, and a shut out is never a bad thing if you win big.
Wisconsin 35 Oregon St 0
Mich St 44 FIU 0
WF 34 NCSU 27

UNC was set up nicely for a crack at breaking the Top 25. However, allowing Rutgers to comeback in their game today, may upset true Carolina fans, because a 24-22 victory over Rutgers is not an impressive enough to score Top 25 points. Although, it was not a blow out, boost you into the Top 25 rankings win, it was a win nevertheless, against a non-conference team that has a decent program. On that note a loss is a loss too, correct? Had to share the fact that Standford annihilated Dook today as well. Dook did have one moment of joy, with a pick late in the second quarter to bring them within a field just before the half. The second half would not be as pretty a half for the Blue Devils.
UNC 24 Rutgers 22
Standford 44 Dook 14

Michigan at the Big House, slammed the door on Notre Dame and sent them home with an 0 and 2 record. Thus setting the Irishmen up for yet another lack luster season.
Michigan 35 ND 31

The Sun Devils of Tempe took care of business at home against a tough Missouri squad. This along with continued good health, plays into Wisconsin's making a mad dash for the conference title, that could lead to a bigger title in the post season play!
ASU 37 Missouri 30
Ohio State was given a scare along with South Carolina. Ohio State edged Toledo at home, nuff said, and South Carolina squeaked past a somewhat rattled Georgia team today, while Texas tiptoes past BYU, winning by one point! Every win is crucial especially in or near the Top 25. I do not believe in running the score up, but the margin of victory makes a difference for sure. Or at least in most cases.
OSU 27 Toledo 22

USC 45 UGA 42
Texas 17 BYU 16

Stay tuned for Stage 20 of the Vuelta, and the NFL's first full weekend. Au revoir, see you in Madrid, and then off to Charlotte, and then Oakland... À vos souhaits, Deus te abençoe, or just plain old God bless.

Vuelvita & Cheese Glorious Cheese!!!

Cheese Head vs. Egg Head...

Great game, with two great teams. Sproles looked impressive with the Saints. The Pack looked good all the way around, but Randall "Don't Call Me Tex" Cobb showed signs of brilliance! A TD catch, and record tying 108 yard Kickoff return all in his (get this) rookie debut! The D was solid, and that stop at the end was gutsy! I can hear the beat, and the bass pumpin' out "Get Low!" as the defensive line did just that! Great, great game! Pack 42 Saints 34

Cycling was a bust, but still good things going on. No win in the Vuelta, but Trek and Portugal get The Aggressive Rider Award today with Paulinho (pictured above), riding hard in the drops...

Friday has a mountain stage, then Saturday sees rolling terrain, with the final stage on Sunday. Monfort has a snowballs chance at winning the GC, and that is Treks best shot... Team Radio Shack fell from team graces in the overall, but Leopard Trek is still in range for a podium! Maxime, Jakob, and Thomas will have to finish strong for a podium shot, but I believe they can do it. Zaugg had to withdraw, so Rohregger will have to step up big time! GO TREK GO!!!

Leo-Shack!?

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/leopard-trek-confirms-merger-with-radioshack

http://www.leopardtrek.lu/news/leopard-trek-welcomes-radioshack-and-nissan-new-main-sponsors

http://www.livestrong.com/teamradioshack/news_press-release-radioshack-nissan-trek-cycling-super-team-links-top-riders-sponsors/

Rumors, rumors, rumors... First Leopard was shutting down, then it was said that Leopard would be financing a big part of the merge. So I have posted a few links above for your reading pleasure.

Most cyclist know their roll. It is one of the most loyal sports that a sports enthusiast can be a part of. Be it a fan, or participant. I am praying for the chemistry to be with the new Trek team. Hopefully the leadership and the merge will bring forth growth in the combined team. It is said that Leipheimer has not yet received an invitation to this merger, nor Jen Voigt. Fuglsang among other names have been excluded because of the 30 member limit. Regardless, the combination of riders will be lethal, and I believe will do some remarkable things. But will Andy be strong enough to lead? Frank showed great character in the Tour de France, and in the USA Pro Challenge seemingly outshining his brother on several occasions. Does Andy have the toughness to step up to the next level? Can he out battle Contador, Evans, and the rest of the world? Time will tell, and I pray that Trek and all of it's riders fair well.

Well onto the Vuelta to take care of business in Spain. I am praying that Fuglsang, Monfort, and all others looking for spots will use this Tour of Spain as a strength builder to their resume`s. Well back to the mountains of Spain... see ya tomorrow.

Labor Day Weekend Review...

Football is here! Or at least College Football anyway. Still have a little time to trash talk before the Nobody's  Faithful League to keep up. For the love of money... not Championships, and especially not for your fans or city, but for the For Self League. College athletics are not far behind, but the majority of those guys still play for pride, and love of the game! That may not pay the bills, but the education they obtain, just might...

So what games meant a hill of beans to you? I am starting off with College Fottball, and getting start to business.

College Football

DUKE 21 Richmond 23
Dook at Wallace Wade (home), is downed by the Richmond Spiders! 23-21 and a Dook loss! That was good enough to end with, but had to get things started on the right foot.

Auburn 42 Utah St 38
Baylor 50 TCU 48
Auburn came back on USU scoring two late TD's to take a victory, and continue their win streak into the new season, and Baylor and TCU were in an offensive dog fight! If Griffin 3 keeps playing at the rate that he did this weekend, he is most def a Heisman candidate in my book!

Wisconsin 51 UNLV 17
The Badger game was almost my top pick for the thumpin' of the day, but I believe I will have to give those honors to Cinci, for bullying up on Austin Peay. Final 72 - 10! However, I will say this again, with Toomer and a talented receiving corp, taking passes from Russell "Mr." Wilson, things could look even brighter for the Badgers this year. The Bucky faithful are once again in the hunt for their conference title and possibly a little more, but I just don't know even with above mentioned and the one-two punch of Ball, and White in the backfield, that they can win it all. If they are going to do so, then the D is going to have to get better!

UNC 42 JMU 10
Last but certainly not least, Carolina opened the season, and took care of their new Head Coach. UNC defeated James Madison by the score of 42 - 10, and gave Coach Withers his first victory as the new skipper. I am praying that this continues. Bryn Renner connected on 22 of his 23 attempts, and tied a school record for consecutive completions by connecting on his last 14... Nicely done Bryn, nicely done!

Cycling

It saddens me to say, that Jakob Fuglsang, of Leopard Trek, dropped in the standings even more. He is now a bit more than 3 minutes off the pace of the race leader (Cobo), and with one week remaining, I just don't think you can be this conservative, and win. The majority of the stages left are mountain stages, with no time trials, and no easy paces from here on out, so being down by minutes at this stage of the race is crucial...

1 Juan Cobo (GEO)

2 Chris Froome (SKY)
3 Bradley Wiggins (SKY)

4 Bauke Mollema (RAB)
5 Maxime Monfort (LEO)

Trek honorable mentions:

7th Jakob Fuglsang (LEO)
22nd Janez Brajkovic (RSH)
25th Oliver Zaugg (LEO)
29th Tiago Machado (RSH)

In the Team Overall:

1 Geox - TMC
2 Leopard Trek

Trek honorable mentions:
11th Radio Shack Trek

Moto GP:

Jorge Lorenzo led the Misano race from pole to finish, and dominated. He still has a lot of ground to make up, with only five rounds remaining, but anything is possible. If JoLo (HoLo) wins out, he still needs help from Stoner. Here's to a couple of third place finishes and a couple of Yamaha 1-2 podiums with Lorenzo, Spies, or even better 1-2-3 finishes with Edwards helping play spoiler too.

Breaking News or not...This just in... Trek teams Radio Shack, and Leopard are rumored again, to be looking toward a merger.
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/more-rumours-around-leopard-trek-radioshack-merger

Now a few key elements have to come into play.
1. Andy is going to have to be the overall rider that he needs to be to make this work.
It's a lot easier said than done, but his overall performance is going to have to be on point. He must improve in the areas of weakness. Most notably his Time Trialing.

2. Is the Chemistry there?
With a team full of heavy hitters you have to deliver! If Andy doesn't step up, and is out ridden by his brother (Frank), then will one of the other riders step up, and if so, what will that do to the morale of the team? Can you say Miami Heat? D Wade, and LeBron sounded like an unstoppable tandem, and don't get me wrong, if I am a franchise owner, and can get both of these guys on my squad, then it's a done deal! The talent is there, now how do you get them to utilize it?

Fantasies, Wishful Thinking, & I Doubt It

Football

My fantasy is that one year I would get an auto draft so fabulous that I could claim our fantasy leagues trophy before the season started.
It is wishful thinking considering that I am too booked to really put any time into anything right now, and I was autodrafted a pretty mediocre team to boot.
Would there be a generous soul willing to shift a QB around and help a brotha out? The answer is no! Charles your cue: "I May Be Wrong, But I DOUBT IT!"

Charles Barkley: "I May Be Wrong (But I Doubt It)" from Hype Communications on Vimeo.

My fantasy is that Wisconsin, UCLA, or UNC would win a CFB National Championship.

It is wishful thinking, and Wisconsin has the best shot at that title. Carolina's schedule is too weak, and they are not in a football conference, or known as a football school. Under Coach Davis' watch they also had some rules violations that have hindered their shot at any greatness, for a long while. At least we still play Duke, but that might not be such a good thing this year either. UCLA has a coach that went through violations problems in his past as well. I believe in second chances, and I believe people can change.

Sadly enough, to all the above, I do not believe that Wisconsin has the defensive prowess to win it all. They have plenty of offensive firepower, but not the D. UNC might have a break out season under new management, but I do not see it! I pray that they do not struggle against Duke this year! The misfortunes at UCLA could change, but again Coach Newheiststeal had his violations woes at Colorado, and the heavy watch would get to anyone. So, I think UCLA will continue to struggle as well. Therefore I have no choice but to cue Charles, because I don't think any of my schools can pull off the miracle season... "I May Be Wrong, But I Doubt It!"

Cycling...

Time for the Vuelta... My fantasy would be seeing Fabian Cancellara come back from 144th place to win the Vuelta, and have Leopard Trek take the overall team title as well! Or have Tiago Machado win the General Classification, and have Team Radio Shack take the overall team title. Oh right, I forgot about the podium finishes! Pick any other Trek riders to put in the 2nd and 3rd spot... and have the Team Overall with Shack or Leopard in first, with the other as runner up, and any of the American Teams to finish third. Yeah that would be sweet!

It's wishful thinking to think that Trek could win the GC and the Team Overall, and completely dominate in every category.

Again all of those things would be great, but it is not gonna happen... I May Be Wrong, But I Doubt It!

Conclusion

Jakob Fulgsang, Haimar Zubeldia, or Janez Brajkovic could come back from being only a few seconds, or a few minutes down. I believe it can be done, and I believe that the highly talented Leopard Trek rider from Denmark (Jakob Fuglsang) can and will win the Vuelta... I could be wrong, but I doubt it!

OK time to clean up, room, bike, me, and get to gittin'!!! Peace...

Labor Day Weekend Sports Update!

Great finish for HTC rider Michael Albasini. He sprinted across the line first, and took Stage 13 from Eros Capecchi. It looked as though Capecchi came out of his shoe momentarily, or that his cleat released from his pedal, and at that point he knew he was finished.

American rider Taylor Phinney of Team BMC calls it a Tour, and prepares now for the World Championships. He had a solid Time Trial in the Vuelta, and will now prepare to do battle in the Worlds against favorites Martin, and Cancellara. Martin has been more of the machine this year, and has dominated in each Tour concerning Time Trials. Speaking of Cancellara, fellow countrymen Oliver Zaugg finished 6th in today's mountainous stage. Great work! The Trek teams are looking good in the overall standings!

The Team Standings show strongly in favor of the Waterloo, WI teams!

Stage 13 Team Results

  1. Team Shack
  2. Leopard Trek
Stage 13 Individual Results

General Classifications
Slight change to the Top 10

Britain's Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky, is still the top rider logging in 51: 14:59 after finishing Stage 13 today. He is trailed by teammate Christopher Froome, also from Britain by seven (7) seconds. Jakob Fuglsang of Leopard Trek moved up a spot into fourth, but is still nineteen seconds behind race leader Wiggins. Fuglsang's teammate, Maxime Monfort holds onto the seventh spot, and Radio Shack just missed have the one two punch to stay in the Top Ten. Janez Brajkovic dropped to eleventh, and teammate Haimar Zubeldia, remains in tenth.

Labor Day Weekend = College Football/Futbol

Wisconsin downs UNLV 51 - 17. Wisconsin was expected to blow out an undersized UNLV at Camp Randall, so no big surprise in this one. Coach Bielema has some work to do on his D, however. UW has a new QB, and he looked pretty good last night. Wilson made sharp passes, and got a somewhat nice comparison last evening. One of ESPN's commentators compared him to Drew Brees. Then they saw that he can run as well... talks say Wilson could go pro! Time will tell.

My beloved Heels play tomorrow Saturday at 3:30pm on ESPN3 y'all, and the missus is trying to drag me out camping! Sorry Coach Withers, I may be campside with the family, and doing work with Kert tomorrow, but I will follow the updates on the old Droid ;)

Let's Make A Deal...

Montee Ball, said, "Lets Make A Thrill!" Badgers beat up on UNLV, and the Heels look to start off on a positive note against James Madison University Saturday at 3:30pm.

Trek still owns 40% of the Top Ten in the Tour of Spain, and Team Radio Shack holds onto the Top Team honors. It's Stage 13 on Friday! Can that be a new bicycling superstition?

Team Standings in the Vuelta:

1The Shack  RSH140h10'17''
2RobABank RABa 1:58
3Leopard LEOa 2:18
4GeoxGEOa 5:41
5AstanaASTa 11:50

Individual Standings:

No changes in the Overall. Wiggins is the man to beat on yet another stage. Friday the 13th Stage13!!!

More Vuelta... Etapa Once

Too late to carry on, so another short jont for the night... Wiggins made a nice move, I can't take that away from him. However, the British commentator needs to step down and let Kelly have the mic! We went from, "NOT WIGGINS, surely not Wiggins!" To, "WIGGINS is making a move, he sees that they are suffering, and he's making his break!" Oh the drama! That's why they get paid! To fire up home growns, and tick off the rest of the world. (Said with a smile) I love all of the announcers, but Kelly being a former racer, and with the smooth Irish accent, and heavy "R's" is the man! To conclude:

Strong showing from Trek as a company, the boys and girls (engineers, riders, and company in general) from Waterloo, still own 40% of the Top Ten, in the GC, in it Fuglsang slipped from second to fifth. Catch y'all later today since it's already Thursday!
