Stop Playing

Stop Playing

Andy Stanley wrote from his devotional; Better Decisions, Fewer Regrets, “People yielded to God don’t attempt to play God. They don’t predict outcomes. Instead, they surrender. They obey. They follow. As much as they want anything they want to be able to lie in bed at night knowing that things are good between them and their Heavenly Father.”

I know that we live in a world full of different people. I also know that some of our differences are all that some of those people are going to see. Some are going to embrace and appreciate the differences, and unfortunately, some of those people are going to reject and hate you just because of those differences.

How you love or treat someone should not be dependent on how they treat you or other people, it should be based upon how God treats you and has instructed you.

People may abandon you, exclude you from their lives, and become very cold towards you, but God will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6 KJV). Forsake... what’s does that mean? It means that He will give you the space that you ask for, but promised not to leave you, and then give up on, reject, turn His back on, or disown you. Even when we turn our backs on Him He has never stopped being their for us, especially when we call on Him wholeheartedly.

So stop playing God, stop playing the victim. Stop playing like you can see things clearly when you aren’t even looking. Be true to Him, be true to yourself, and turn it all over to Him. The picture is much clearer when we look at it in Supernatural faith, rather than with natural sight.

Peace, blessings, and joy...

Where Are You Getting Your Info?

Where Are You Getting Your Info?

Would you ask a Yamaha fanatic about whether the Honda is faster than the Yamaha? Would you ask a finance manager if you can afford the faster Yamaha, when he hasn't had anyone in his office for a month? Would you ask the sales person which bike is the baddest, when he's led every potential buyer to the one bike in the corner covered in dust? If you answered yes to any of those please reread this paragraph.

Would you ask Fox News, CBS, NBC, or NPR about which candidate to vote for? Would you ask anyone that badmouths every candidate in a particular party without even knowing who they are, who to vote for? On that note, I am a bit let down by Franklin Graham now. Ben Carson is not perfect, but I don't see him being any less a Christian than either of the Presidents Bush. I know that sounds funky, but those of you with smarts will get it. Now Franklin Graham is saying he will not endorse a Republican, and that voters should vote for the person that represents Christian values the most. Mr. Carson has his biography and movie based on his life in Christian book stores started by Mr. Graham's father and he will not endorse him. Hmmmm... And then there's the Madonna of candidates, "Drop the Bush," Jeb we all know who you are, where you come from, and who's now not admitting to follow.

Would you ask a person down and out, that's barely making it, or not even making it to help you figure out your finances? Wait Tyler Perry has a "movie," "The Family That Preys," with a former financial expert advising a single grandmother about her investments doesn't he? That's your one exception, if that one applies, even. Moving right along...

Are you looking for a new church? Would you ask an atheist to assist you with that? Would you ask a protestant about a mosque, or a kingdom hall to attend, or vice-versa? Have you tried the spirit to see that its true? (I John 4:1-5) Pick a version of the Holy Bible, it'll all bring you to the truth if you seek it. Because if you seek His guidance and not an unreliable source, you'll find the proper answer. Find your source, and then you'll find your answer.

Would you seek a person that has no life, messes in the lives of everyone else because of it, to help you find your place in life? I think these are all very valid questions. I am looking for a rational nation to not look to take our country back, but instead to take it forward!

Until then... I'll be riding my R1 as an independent to the polls, and as a Christian to the open air meeting on the mountain soon if any of you care to join me.

Want To See Inside A Prison?

Some people are locked in their own minds. Held captive by their belief, sealed behind the vault of a closed mind. You are about to meet some of them now.

Follow me please. We will walk down the long hall, where the floors are polished, and the gray concrete appears to be as slick as it has the potential to be icy cold. We pass a series of heavy cast (steel or iron) doors, some slam shut with each repeating the apothegm of, "you're now at our mercy." The officer escorts us for the remaining portion of our journey and it is there we meet individuals from all walks of life. In a snug room with few tables tightly fit, men sit along each one either begin their studies or await instructions. Some individuals are mature enough to belong to the geriatric setting, while others are young enough to be fresh out of high school. Some are Caucasian, some are of African ancestry, some with lots of hair, some balding, some bearded, some clean shaven, and others in between. It is then that one of the younger in between's calls out, "Hey... Hey... Excuse me, Mr. Obama!"

The facilitator lifts his head and eyes turning to the gentleman calling for his attention, and replies with a lighthearted laugh, "Did you just call me Mr. Obama?"

"Yeah," he replies, "I can't remember your name, and it's different, like 'Obama.'"

Another man laughs out loud saying, "Man he wrote his name on the board and how to pronounce it!"

The other men  I.  laugh at the first man as well now.

The first man, with a sly grin on his face says, "That word with the 'w/' next to the letter, and plus sign next to those other letters is how to say his name?! Man I thought that was algebra, or something!"

Needless to say, that earned a boisterous laugh from the entire group, even the facilitator, aka "Mr. Obama."

How is it that I cannot seem to escape the connection to this man? I have to admit that I have mixed emotions concerning that connection. Association with the intellect, and articulation is great. Association with the humanitarian in a person is also great. Association with a politician... not always so great.

Speaking of politicians and humanitarians. Some men will seek to help you as they help themselves, while others will look to get one over on you, and do not desire to work hard and make a change. They only want to help themselves, and not due to hard work either. Those are the imprisoned, and don't plan on leaving that prison even after they leave the facility. What do I mean by that?

Some men that are incarcerated actually look forward to earning their diploma, getting their GED, rightfully obtaining their freedom. Others are stuck in the mindset, of having to get rich, quick, or die trying. The sad thing is, that their attempt and dying from trying is most likely going to be a long painful death. It is a death that kills a families spirit, it kills morale, and it kills freedom. That individual ends up back in prison, on lock down, and in most cases incarcerated for several years. They are prisoners of an inescapable prison, the reprobate mind.

You have now encountered my walk into prison. My walk out is something like this: my Christmas wish and prayer is that all that walked that hallway with me just now counted each step. That you counted each step as though you were blind, that you listened to every door slam shut a little more intently, and that you felt the variance of temperature through each corridor in the same manner. That as you now enter the gatehouse with me, you can see the officer at the controls, and understand that he or she will assist us to obtain our freedom again, just as each man in the room that we just left looks to us and their instructors to obtain their mental and educational freedom. As we walk out together I pray that you thank him/her, as I do, for assisting us to exit. I pray that you'll join me in also in praying that as we help these men obtain their education that they will use it to better themselves and better serve our communities, their communities, our state, our nation, our world. Lord, free our minds, so the rest will follow... Amen.

Pretending

Big purple dinosaurs influence some of us to use too much imagination and not enough reality. We pretend to be a friend, but then we don't have time for our friends. We pretend to care about people, but are so carefree that we become careless enough to become uncaring and rude. Some people will go as far as to lie to one another and pretend not to be interested in another's caring or compassion then they observe the other individual (stalk) them for the sole purpose of the self-indulgence in ego tripping. Yes ego trippin'! They watch you just to see if they're hurting you, or if they're getting to you. What's good is that the purple dinosaur can't trump a purple clad spirit. Don't pretend to care, no instead prove that you do care. The imperfect Christian's spirit is in tune with a greater spirit. That spirit is the Holy Spirit.

In the first pic, that's an image of a great friend (a brother of mine), and myself. In the second pic, it's actually the two of us, not a reflection, or refraction. We don't have to pretend that we are there for one another. We are actually there for one another.

When I say I don't need Facebook to appreciate this brother, I'm sincere in that. I don't have to follow him on Twitter or lie to him about losing my password (both of us knowing I can retrieve it in my email), to keep from helping him out by following him and trying to be stealth and stalk him without his knowledge of it.

Do we agree to disagree? Sure, but we don't pretend to be something we aren't. We're friends for life and we have taken and take time to grow as friends. That's what good friends do. That's how good relations are conducted. Whether it be public, private, or otherwise, that's how rational people conduct themselves. When I was a child I spake as a child (I cursed without caring, I talked without thinking, I talked vulgar and partook in like events), I understood as a child (my understanding was that as long as it was good for me, that's all that mattered), I thought as a child (I thought it was ok to rush into things, that it was ok to say one thing, then do another), but when I became a man, I put away childish things. (Sometimes the childish things will put themselves away, let them be done, let them stay lying, and if you have to put them away yourself, then put them away and do not look back. Do not look back just rejoice and be glad that you're not the one having to figure out how it was that you missed and allowed things to go so wrong, that it had to be put away in the first place.
I Corinthians 13:11

Pretending leaves you in a fantasy, not a fantastic voyage. Happy sailing realist. Happy drifting without a sail pretender.

The Final Love Story

The imperfect Christian has a story that may be a bit graphic for younger audiences, so be forewarned as a parent.

The imperfect Christian was reminiscing over a dear friend, one that knew no limits in love. This friend was the most compassionate, humanitarian anyone could ever meet.  The friend became a best friend, a major influential figure, and a mentor. The imperfect one remembers his friend announcing in a formal letter (a final love story) that it was time for their departure. It was one of the saddest times a person could ever endure. The imperfect Christian was losing the perfect friend.

Imagine your best friend saying that they were going to move several hours away. Imagine going to an empty house, and not finding your best friend there, or the love of a lifetime there. Imagine you've lost your job. Imagine finding a suicide note with the follow bits of information:

The doctor has informed me that I have cancer. My spouse left me, and has taken our children 900 miles away. I have endured being abusing daily, both verbally and physically. My spouse has cheated on me, and I have experienced the pain of what it is like to cheat on a spouse. I love life, but I am so depressed that the thought of suicide rushes in like the flood waters from a heavy rain, on soft, rich, mountainous soil. On top of all of this, my friend, that is closer than any brother, told the people that hated me most, just where to find me, then the government has falsely accused me. They have tried me unjustly and now they are imprisoning me. I was in the theatre where couples were slain, I was in the school when children killed children, but none of them would come to me for cover. They wouldn't allow me to help. Now they won't treat me, and the only medicinal aid they will grant me, is a vile, bitter liquid. They are prepared to beat me, and have exposed me to the other belligerent souls here, and they have taken their hate out on me. I have endured: adultery, bullying, gender discrimination, genocide, murder, racism, rape, treason, and on and on... I had lost my job, battled depression, had my best friend set me up, and now I am walking a deeper green mile than Stephen King ever dreamed of. I am on death row, and I have every ailment, and form of disease known to mankind. Everything from aids to a toothache, and now the public despises me as well. As I sit here alone I can only pray that all of this is just a bad dream, and that there is some way out. When I wake up, this will all be over, and thing will be as they were, and everything will be ok, and I will know this not to be true. If there is anyway, I pray this not to be necessary!

The imperfect Christian first met this dear friend, as a child, at his grandmother's house. This friend has seen the imperfect Christian through lifes' struggles, time and time again. This friend never once turned their back on the imperfect one. The imperfect one was bitter at this friend, and this friend on a few occasions, and unlike any other friend, this friend stayed with the imperfect one even when he was less than perfect. From self murder, to murdering others, God knows your struggle. Ever wonder why God allowed His only begotten Son to die such a brutal death? Some say that Jesus, in a round about way, committed suicide because He didn't call on the legion of angels to destroy His captors.
Instead Jesus called His betrayer (Judas Iscariot) "friend!"
Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?” Matt 26:50 (NKJV)

Then Jesus said to Peter:
"Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? Matt 26:52&53 (NKJV)

The imperfect Christian is not suggesting anyone commit suicide, but I am thinking that in this instance, THE Son of God was thinking of the son of perdition. Blasphemy against the Holy One, and denying yourself daily grace, (not believing in the SON), are the only unpardonable sins.

This is my final love story, because there is no other love, no other love like this.

Peace, Blessings, and Joy... that real PB&J

Which Way Is Up?

Proverbs 24:16 say that the righteous man falls seven times, only to rise again.

Several have fallen physically, and several others have fallen mentally in the 2011 Tour de France. Some riders felt the agony of Stage 8 and the Super Besse while others rejoiced in personal triumph. Rui Costa of Portugal (pictured above via Getty Images) won Stage 8 in fine fashion. He rode up front in the final portion of the stage, made his break and was victorious. Schleck stayed with Contador as did Evans and Hushovd, and they finished safely while maintaining their positions and advantage over the rest of the field.

17 "The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who keeps His way preserves his soul." Proverbs 16:17 (NKJV)

The highways of France can produce certain dangers, and so can the road to life. Some riders try to avoid danger, while others take more risks. Costa jumped out front and rode a smart race and successfully finished first in Stage 8. So how is it that we jump out front in the life race. Get up earlier, rejoice more, and give thanks. Rui Costa pointed toward the heavens to thank God after the stage, and as a devout Christian (more than likely Catholic) I gather that it's safe to say that he prayed for a victory today and rejoiced as it was granted. I pray that I will rejoice and be more thankful today.

I am thankful for good Samaritans today, and grateful for a Comforter in The Holy Spirit. I dedicated this blog to a downed rider Lie Nielson who in Christ can rise again. Blessing to his family. God be with his widow and five year old twins. For the full story:

I Saw The Light

I was happy and somewhat eager to see the final score of the Lakers and Mavs. I had anticipated that the Lakers would play with a hunger that would lead to a blow out. Kobe had 32 points and Bynum, Odom, and Gasol all had double - doubles. The bench out played the Mavs bench, and the Lakers won by 19.

Then the Dodgers, Andre Ethier had another hit and extended his hit streak to 30 consecutive games! What a perfect sports night. All this is great because I haven't jynxed him yet, and I am believing in his surpassing D'Maggio's major league record by three (3) games. Yes, I called it here first! Fifty-seven straight!

Well in an imperfect world, an imperfect Christian realizes that the perfect nights sleep is calm and ends well with a joyful wake up call. I was up on and off all night concerned about a sick mate and then ridely awakened too early by reality. I picked up my phone checked the Dodgers page and Ethier had safely reached base for the 30th consecutive time! That was great news, then came the not so great. The Lakers had dropped Game #2 at home to fall behind in the series by as many games. Am I panicking? No. I feel that they can still win this thing, but next year will be a reconstruction like no other, and I think it will be ugly. Beginning with a replacement for Coach Jackson. But in the mean time will Pau come thru in this series against Dallas, and can Mr. Ego refrain from taking that one nasty momentum shifting shot that turns the game around in favor of the bad guys? You know the double coverage, off balance, man open in the corner - but I'm a selfish non- passing shooter - shot.

Time will tell. But what changed my whole outlook on the playoffs was something by far bigger than the playoffs. I really believed with my entire being that the Lakers would be victorious in the game last night. I was nearly sick at my stomach when I saw the score. Frustrated I moved on to check my email, and that's when I received a prayer request that brought me back to earth. A request for intecessory prayer. A friend concerned for another friend, and it all hit me... it was sobbering actually. This is just a game, but today is a day that you have experienced life in. It was not guaranteed, nor was it promised, but it is here and so are you. As a Christian and a sports lover we should strive to face each challenge head on and help someone else make the best of their day and challenges along the way. So, needless to say I got over the loss quickly enough, and prayed. However, I'd be a liar if I said that I wasn't thinking hours after the prayer request about Game 3. Thinking about it with confidence and hopeful for another victorious series both on and off the court. Life is not just a game, but we should make it just as fun!

Trevor "Big Bang" Bayne

Trevor said with his faith statement, (not really, the imperfect Christian did) about the evolution of his Daytona victory... "God clapped His hands, and "bang!" Trevor after a prayer was headed to Victory Lane. ;)

The imperfect Christian is not a Ford fan, and it's not that he dislikes the Wood Brothers (who have been racing since Moses introduced them to chariot racing), but the imperfect one is a Trevor Bayne fan now. The imperfect Christian, and family made it through Knoxville just before the city was covered in red and white confetti! We listened to the race via the radio on our way home from a nice road trip, and were blown away by Trevor's faith statement. Here's the link to the article in Autoweek:

http://www.autoweek.com/article/20110221/NASCAR/110229992

A co-worker turned the imperfect Christian on to this article, and used the last statement that Trevor gave to the columnist:

"One more thing: My faith is a huge part of my life. The biggest thing I've ever done and ever could do was find Christ. That's the reason I'm here; that's my whole platform. He's put me here for this reason. If it wasn't for that, there's no way I'd be here. These are great things, but they go away with time. My relationship with Christ is something that can never go away."

God bless the Trevor Bayne's of the sports world. Prayerfully more men will make this stand, and say, "I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ!" For that reason I pulled for Jeff Gordon after his first victory, and it would be nice to hear him glorify God again like he used to.

For Better, Not For Worse...

I have always loved hearing Capt. Harris from the Police Academy movies say with a gradual growl as he completed this sentence, "If you're gonna be a bear, be a GRIZZLY!!!" So, I decided to be a grizzly, although, I would be more of a Brown Bear in reality I guess? But in the wheel and deal game, I am looking to go a step further. I had originally looked at saving and purchasing an aluminum framed Trek bicycle. Aluminum isn't bad, but why not be patient, and go for carbon fiber? Sure it's twice the cost, but twice the fun when you carve up those mountain roads! I currently have enough saved to buy my pedals. Then I thought, so goes life... Why not be that grizzly in all walks of life. Some folks buy their kids cars for graduation presents. That works for some, and others... well not so good. My cousin got a hand me down car, and then a new sports car when he was in school. He was grateful, and he took great care of those cars. Hard work pays off. He got a passed down car to start with, and took great care of that car. But his parents were patient enough to reward him, and not spoil him. Now his hard work has paid off even more. Note to self... you have a daughter, and son's that could, and for the most part do, do well enough to continue their education so be patient and reward them, and remember hard work pays off! Don't raise a prodigal, and you wont have to worry about the if, or when he/she comes back home day... just sayin'.

For your health, pedal money can be an investment, but are you matching school money to pedal money, or exceeding it? Ah ha! AH HA! says the wise old Jewish man in his raspy voice sitting in the barber shop, "What do you know from funny anyway, you..." he says! But humorous or not, he knows what makes him smile, and what has for generations. Have you invested the time, or the funds, and effort to make you smile for a lifetime? If not no better time than now to start, and yes imperfect Christian, and writer of this blog I am talking to you! :) Oh and remember at least the prodigal son did return home!

Peace, Blessings, and Joy in Christ... that real PB&and Joy

Steady Rollin' Trekin' Right Along!

I hear Trek, and I think of two things:

1. James T. Kirk and the Starship Enterprise
2. A Wisconsin born bicycle company!

I am starting to dig the bike above. It's Trek's 1.1. It needs a bigger chain ring for my need to do 65-70mph on the downside of Chestoa, but on the other hand, I could use that smaller ring, and a granny gear for the climb back up since I am in horrendous shape! Did I mention that the Carrera Blue is an eye catcher as well, or that the entry level price is nicer than that of the Madone Series? Yes, Mr. Armstrong you can send me one if you really feel that generous, but I will not hold you to that! Plus you have already told me that I couldn't talk to you about how I'm not religious, but very spiritual. Lol. Imperfect may not be my middle name, but it is who I am until the day of perfecting. I credit my doctor's for a lot of healing, but I credit the Great Physician with blessing those gifted hands, and minds that have helped me along the way. When I felt as though I couldn't cope, He made a way, even when the doctors, lawyers, and friends had given up on me. For that I truly am thankful.

The Critical Bowl...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/01/AR2010020102067.html

Even the ladies appreciate Tebow! And not just Gator fans, but fans of life, and fans of humanitarianism. He has a bad game in the SEC Championship. He had a bad outing at the Senior Bowl, and still people say that this hurt his stock in the NFL Draft. Name one QB that had stellar performances, in either of the last two games that I just mentioned, and has done anything productive in the NFL. Peyton Manning maybe? Nope no championships for Mr. Manning, but he and Timmy Te do have one thing in common, and that's heart! Manning stayed his Senior year when he could have left early, and made his money a year early. He and Tebow are motivators. Tebow doesn't have to throw a touchdown on every third completion, he only needs to keep that big body strong and healthy, and his mind even healthier. He may not be Peyton, he's much more mobile, and he is a winner, and a leader, so time will tell. I wish him well in his endeavor as a player, and even more as a Christian. He is a winner on the playing field of LIFE.
