Fear of Missing Out

 Fear

Preparedness... Mookie Betts of the LA Dodgers is facing former Astros and current Rays pitcher Charles Alfred Morton IV in the 2020, COVID shortened season ending, World Series. Mookie is prepared to swing at a good pitch. He has no fear of missing out. He gets his turn to bat, and he makes the most of it. He’s not concerned with what happened the at bat before him, or his last at bat for that matter. He’s only interested in doing what he can do with Charlie Morton’s next pitch.

I had taken some time away from social media. It was much needed time away, and I have no regrets. It made me realize just how much of the real me, and the real world I was missing out on. I had a special day with special people, some great surprises, and much needed alone time with d.o.g, and G.O.D. Fear of missing out, transformed to faithfully overcoming my opposition. You’re in the batters box, what are you prepared to do with the next pitch? Beware of the intentional pass. The enemy may give you a base, but what will you do to get home? What will you do with the next pitch?

Peace, blessings, and joy...

Stop Playing

Stop Playing

Andy Stanley wrote from his devotional; Better Decisions, Fewer Regrets, “People yielded to God don’t attempt to play God. They don’t predict outcomes. Instead, they surrender. They obey. They follow. As much as they want anything they want to be able to lie in bed at night knowing that things are good between them and their Heavenly Father.”

I know that we live in a world full of different people. I also know that some of our differences are all that some of those people are going to see. Some are going to embrace and appreciate the differences, and unfortunately, some of those people are going to reject and hate you just because of those differences.

How you love or treat someone should not be dependent on how they treat you or other people, it should be based upon how God treats you and has instructed you.

People may abandon you, exclude you from their lives, and become very cold towards you, but God will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6 KJV). Forsake... what’s does that mean? It means that He will give you the space that you ask for, but promised not to leave you, and then give up on, reject, turn His back on, or disown you. Even when we turn our backs on Him He has never stopped being their for us, especially when we call on Him wholeheartedly.

So stop playing God, stop playing the victim. Stop playing like you can see things clearly when you aren’t even looking. Be true to Him, be true to yourself, and turn it all over to Him. The picture is much clearer when we look at it in Supernatural faith, rather than with natural sight.

Peace, blessings, and joy...

NBCU Who?!

When your spirit recognizes a special calling...

“What time is it?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“Why are you interrupting me?”
“Cause I want to see you!”
“Who are you?”
“You know it’s me again.” (And the conversation carried on after the door was opened)...

Yes Lord I’m listening. #Thankful #MoBetter

That Same Sky, Same Moon, Same Stars...

Celebrity Lights

Celestial Lights

I remember watching Tom Hanks in his role as Chuck Noland in Castaway, and thinking, "how brilliant is this man?!" He was in survival mode the entire time of his tragedy, he didn't panic, he was well educated, he took control and responsibility of the situation the whole time he was stranded. As an actor Mr. Hanks was brilliant, and to perfection, portrayed the role of a brilliant businessman that simply refused to give up. We should all be so inspired in our daily lives to live and love in the same manner. Never give up!

Love fueled his desire to live. He looked for every resource that he could find that was natural, and he looked through the resources he had from the wreckage that would help him survive, and enable him to return to his love.

Mr. Noland was a desperate man towards he end, he was in an all or nothing frame of mind. I won't spoil the ending for you in case you haven't seen the movie, but I'll introduce you to a scene that helped change my outlook on life.

Mr Noland decided that it was do or die time. So rather than wait to be rescued, he built a raft, one that he felt would endure the breakers, and see him afloat off in the deep blue sea. He again utilized his resources, and began navigation by calculating his direction based on the tools provided by God in our solar system, the sun, and the stars. He was an extraordinary mind. This scene in the movie led me to do some critical thinking of my own while on a missions trip. What if my plane were to have gone down in the vast deep? What if I were just told by the people on the island that I couldn't return home? Even though I now swim like a fish, would I be brave enough to overcome my atavistic fear of sharks and water? Would I be intelligent enough to utilize my resources and find my way home if I were? Or would I be like Djimon Hounsou in his role as the captured slave "Cinque" in another powerful performance and movie, "Amistad?" Cinque wanted to get home as well. However, even as great as his love for his home and family were he did not have the privilege in his camp to obtain the knowledge of the skies like Mr. Noland had. Cinque would need help. Love is a powerful drug.

Have you ever sat underneath the midnight sky and wandered in your minds eye to ask the question, "I wonder if my loved one is thinking of me right now?" "I wonder if he/she is looking at that same big, full moon that I am right now?" "I wonder if he/she is wishing on that star, like I am, praying that soon, very soon, I'll be reunited with the one(s), I love?"

What would you do, what have you done, or endured for love? If credit cards could buy love, my company's slogan would be, "What's in your heartbeat?!" Tell the people you love that you love them. Now... yes, right now! This blog is over, go tell that love what they mean to you... go on, get ta gettin'!

Peace, blessings, and joy... that real PB&J

The Ghost of Missus Past

Just Like A Woman

Her father told her story first. Her love tells it most. Her Heavenly Father, and First love tells it truest, and has the last say. She loves her earthly father, but she was never good enough in her own eyes based on what her father told her growing up. She was never good enough and could have done things differently according to her recollection of daddy. What she failed to understand was that he only wanted to be her harshest critic because he loved her enough not to settle for mediocrity. Great fathers don't want great things for their daughters, they want what's best for them. That's the best dad anyone could ever have. Unfortunately, she learned to do just that, to settle for mediocrity because she didn't see what daddy saw, she saw what her pain led her to see. Her pain led her to see that it was most fitting to settle. Settling helps find an ease in the pain, a quick remedy to the pain. Which led her to settle all her life, to avoid the pain at all costs, to settle for allowing the ghost of her past to haunt her.

If she's not good enough for daddy, perhaps she can find a father figure that will make her forget she's not good enough by having him tell her that nothing outside of him (the father figure) is good enough? He's smart enough to temporarily tickle her ears, so he has to be the smartest man she knows. How will she handle the lies? When will she see the truth? The lies of... the money is not good enough, the affection is not good enough, the physical relationship is not good enough. He needs more from more, more money (more theft), more affection (more women), more for the flesh (more substances/addictions). She is so used to the lies that she feels as though she has to stay trapped inside that tiny earthly body, and still figure out a way to hold the weight of the world on her shoulders. Then when she tries to take on the weight of the world, she experiences the weight of the universe, and it is there that she has an encounter with God. A feminine, Job, why me moment.

"Lord, I've been telling You ("telling" is often confused as prayer), I want one of these play things, (a man that she can manipulate like an older sibling blackmailing the younger sibling to get out of more choice situations, or get into situations they really don't want to be a part of), so I'm gonna rub Your bottle (Bible or imaginary subconscious bottle), You play genie, give me what I want, and I promise to be a good girl," she demands!

He replies, "Two questions for you little woman, dear little sweet child of mine, Why start now, what are you really praying for? You've continually taken matters into your own hands, why stop now?" Why do we start prayer, and why should we end disobedience, and making vain request? To receive our blessings, to do the right thing, to get out of His way, and let Him be life, love, and the joy in us, through us, and for us.

Even though He doesn't have to, God still hears, so when will we? I've been praying for someone just like you!!! Did you hear you, or did you hear God? Did God say, "I've heard your prayers, and now the answer is in you. Seek Me in him, and you will get closer to him as you get closer to Me. "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all this things shall be added to you" (Matthew 6:33 KJV). Yes all these things, the man, the diamond on the finger, the nice home (not just a house), and all! You were almost a wife, don't let satan still anymore of your joy. Don't seek the desire you want in a man, it's temporal, don't stay focused on the pain of a past man, this too should, and shall pass as you let it!!! Instead seek the God in him that was created for you, and find the love of a lifetime.

White Lives Matter, Where Are You Now?

Where are they now?

Photo courtesy of USA TODAY (Trevor Hughes)

A picture is worth a thousand words, so goes the old adage. However, silence is oft times louder than the words screamed by an angry protestor, or is it possible that silence is so loud it screams what the anti-protestor has been saying all along? "We are who we say we aren't!" Is it possible that some just don't know how truly racist they are? Possibility vs. Probability, where's your money?

So where are they now? The fine folks that were so tore up over the Black Lives Matter (#BLM) movement. Again, to clarify the #BLM wasn't an acronym for forget the White, Red, Orange, or other. As one participant of the movement has been quoted by many now, "Save the whales doesn't mean screw the shrimp!" So, where are you now, anti-protestor? Now that there are "White Lives Matter," movements taking place, why haven't you comeback with the cry of "All Lives Matter," while they're gaining national attention? Christians first. Jesus proved 2,ooo years ago that all lives matter, but He also proved that not everyone felt that way, it would seem that ONLY He felt that way. I think He's proving it again in 2017.

For months no one could watch an NFL football game comfortably due to the bickering of certain players kneeling during the anthem. First it was the Colin Kaepernick show, then it blossomed into "the ones kneeling," and finally the harvest of protest yielded the fruit of NFL players being given the permission to begin the "My Cleats, My Cause," campaign, and there was in the end somewhat of a hush. I will go on record to say that I was not in favor of kneeling during the anthem. I have uncles that were Marines, my grandfather was a Ranger in the US Army, and I have a host of other family and friends considered my extended family that served during times of war, and in times of non war, in various branches of service, not to mention the fact that I am a proud American that has overcome the adversity of racism in every form, due to men and women who have fought in various forms so that I have the privileges that I enjoy to this day. So I am not a fan of kneeling during the anthem, I am however, a fan of taking a stand, #even_if it means taking a controversial one. It was controversial that Rosa Parks was accused of civil disobedience, and arrested for sitting in the front a transit bus. It was more shocking than controversial that the arrest and conviction were overturned by the highest court in the land after coming to the conclusion that her being arrested for sitting where she chose was unconstitutional. Her "civil resistance" exploited an uncivilized portion of our population that woke up the rest of this great nation. A nation that is not looking to be "great again," but to be even greater as one. A nation where all lives are seen as lives that matter, and that life is to be treasured among all as one. God bless America, and all who make her great.

#BlackLivesMatter vs #AllLivesMatter Part III

What are your intentions?

Social media, and its betrayal of society. How does social media and most news reports project a matter?

How is discrimination delivered? Is it merely in fleshy tones and hues?
"Your son is an excellent soccer player," says a parent to the coach who is not Caucasian!
"Thanks, but that's not my son," replies coach, then points to his daughter who's features and skin tone do not fit the "Black stereotype."
The stereotype (even in a positive light) may be based on skin tone.

Is it merely flesh tones, and hues?
"She just jumped in and locked her kid out of her Mercedes when my husband walked by their condo," says the Caucasian wife, concerning her brown skinned husband with Latino and African ancestry, walking past their Caucasian neighbors condo!
"Mommy, why'd you lock me out," asks the child of approximately 5 years?
"Just be quiet and get in the house," the embarrassed mother replies!
"Rude, sad, and contradictorily enough, hilarious all in the same breath," says the wife's aunt!
Sometimes it's all about the skin.
Sometimes it's the origin you're in, and not the skin you're in that matters...
"He may steal from us!"
"Not all kids (even Black/Brown), are thieves Mary Helen!"

A fair skinned girl in an school with the culture stemming predominately from African ancestry is referred to as "the pretty one." How Black does she look? She doesn't. She has full lips, but very fair skin, and without being prompted to see her parents, most would not know that her parents were American with African heritage.

Trayvon wasn't shot by an officer. He was no saint, but did he deserve to die because of that?

The Johnson's introduced Black Entertainment Television (BET), and the "Black," Brown, or American's with African heritage embraced it. Does that mean that they tried to do away with all other networks, or channels? Ask a Brotha if he only wants BET when the Super Bowl is on, or the NCAA Mens National Basketball Championship is on. But for a second focus on the more affluent, and more ignorant community that was also introduced to BET. Even though BET was not designed to take away from ANY other shows, or networks there are those that treat it as if it were. "Why don't we have a station, or network (Michael Eric Dyson, Tears We Cannot Stop, 2016)? Maybe because WET just doesn't fit? Or... why make yourself inferior when you have everything anyway?

I am not saying that I agree with ignorance, that I promote it, or that this viewpoint is law, and that all have to agree with it. However, you have to admit, it'll get the juices flowing, and make you think. What if it is true, or what if there's more? How bout this:
"To a Christian," #AllSoulsMatter! ~ Wiseman Woods
To Jesus, #AllLivesMatter #AllSoulsMatter
His going to the Cross evidenced how much they matter to Him, and unfortunately, it also proves how that's the farthest thing from the truth for others.

Why in the NFL would you say that?!

Photo Courtesy of: GoTravvy (IG: wynstagrams_power2thepixel), the Carolina Panthers, and the NFL (Not intended for sale or reproduction)

The NFL in my way of seeing it...

Way down South.

Why would I say that it's easier to win the Southern Division in the NFC than a Wildcard spot? Because any team can go 8 - 8 in the South and be champs! Also, because history has a way of repeating itself. Quinn is a hard nosed coach, but Riverboat Ron hasn't won 3 straight divisional titles for no reason. He utilizes talent that he doesn't even have to win games! The Cats still have an outside shot of finishing 5 - 2 in the last seven, while Atlanta with a struggle outside of the conference could crumble and finish a dismal 3 - 4, or possibly even 2 - 5 down the stretch. I'm just saying... ca-razier things have happened, and they could happen again.

To close out the rest of the division... the Saints have already come marching in, and are marching on their way out. They will make more changes after this season, I am sure.

The young Bucs are just that, young and growing. Under the leadership of their new QB, Jameis Winston (which is not bad, but certainly not that of Dak Prescott), they have done well. They are not yet ready to dethrone anyone, or step up and claim a prize that will not go unclaimed, however. Which leads us to the East.

"To the East my brotha to the East..."

Dethroning their arch nemesis, the Redskins has come to fruition for the bad guys this year. Barring a miracle (come on miracle), the Cowboys will win the East walking away. Painfully said, enough said.

The Frozen Tundra.

Unless you're a Bear anything is possible in the NFC North. If you're a Bear it's time to den, and no you can't share the one that the Lions are occupying. The healing Pack with experience will ultimately take charge and win the North by a clipped wing and a prayer.

How the West was won.

We thought the new Sheriff in town was from LA, but an ex-collegiate con from LA will have stolen the show again this year with a whole host of Badgers led by Mr. Wilson in the Pacific northwest. Whew, that was a mouthful! With that said, unless the red bird of the desert shows up like the menace, then the water fowl should prevail. Regardless, they'll all taste like chicken when the post Thanksgiving portion of the season gives way to the new year.

The AFC...

East.

Almost as painful as coughing up blood... the Pats (again), have the East sealed.

The not so Great North.

Does anyone care? Just kidding Ravens, and Steeler fam. Bengal and Browns... The Bengals haven't had much to talk about since the days of the flying squirrel, "Boomer" Esiason, and Mr. Woods, not Tiger of course, although it is ironic enough that he played for a team with a tiger for a mascot. I would have been more accepting of being called Tiger rather than being called, Ickey. It must have been the dance that earned Mr. Woods such a title? Which is the only "cold cut" I have for him today. Then there's Cleveland, who according to Drew Carey, "Rocks!" Cleveland according to the NFL, "Got rocked!" Again!!! Can we talk Jim Brown out of retirement? I'm taking the Ravens winning the North by a little, with the Steelers looking for a Wildcard.

Way down South, Part II.

Everything is bigger in Texas, losing included. Losing will reshape the football state again, but so will winning. They will always be second in Texas. There will be more changes, but especially if the Titans take the crown. A Texans loss to the Raiders in Mexico City could make that momentum change, and personnel change very likely.

How the West was won, Part II.

#JustWinBaby #JustWIN ... Nuff said.

In case you don't understand the hashtags above, or don't know the late Al Davis, and his philosophies... it's the Raiders division to lose. Now you know.

What's Real, and What's Fantasy?

What's real, and what's fantasy?

What's real:
Abortion clinics are very real.
George Bush was really president.

What's fantasy:
Fantasy was voting for a George H., and/or W. Bush, and thinking that abortions would decrease or abortion clinics would disappear. They never went away, they still exist.

What's real:
Firearms.
They still sale real assault rifles, and handguns.

What's fantasy:
Fantasy is voting for Hillary Clinton and thinking that firearms will go away, and that people shouldn't take responsibility for what happens with their firearms.

What's real:
There was relationships of all kinds before the US Constitution was written, and turned into the US CONstitution, and two Middle Eastern cities are still under water after being exposed Biblically about their sin nature.

What's fantasy:
No other cities have been destroyed by divine power, and no one has stopped the fact that some women will want relations with women, and some men will want relations with men.

Who you vote for may not change any of the above, who you pray for may.
Who you point fingers at, or talk about may not hear you, God will.
Who you point fingers at, or talk about may not care, you should.
Who you point at may need to be self, take a minute to think about what makes you want to be so right, all the time. May be, that just maybe, you may be the one in need of changing...

Honor, Love, Respect

Honor, Love, Respect

UNC Marching Band, Cheerleaders, Dancers, and Football Team photo courtesy of IG: Wynstagrams_Power2thePixel

People make mistakes, bad decisions, and a whole host of other wrongful acts. When a person does the wrong thing some people will never forget it. An apology can be made, and those same people just won't let go of how they perceive that wrong doing, even if they are just as wrong, or (brace yourself), even if they started the wrongful act. Forgiveness is an act of respect, self-respect. Self-respect in the sense that the one forgiving is respectful enough to forgive, respectful enough to accept the disrespectful wishes of the person who doesn't forgive, and lacks character enough to be what they claim to be (a good, or caring person). They can't be wrong, so respect their wish, if they can't be wrong, they can at least be what they choose... miserable, disrespectful, and alone, very alone. Alone on an early death bed, alone in a rest home, alone...

For the people who face the music at the end of the game win or lose, and do so to honor those that they love, and even some they don't, much love and respect to you. The art form of love and honor are lost forms, lost forms waiting on the one innovator to come along and introduce them in a flavorful, new way.

Lord let the innovation and revival begin with me. For those I've wronged, or had a difficult time forgiving. Lord please forgive me now, and allow me to forgive now as well. "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us," why is it on us first? Because we always expect our child to know better and do as its taught, to do the right thing. God is more deserving of being honored as a Father than me, and He expects us (me) to do the right thing. Therefore, on us again (me again), let us (me)... "forgive those that trespass against us," too.

Until the next time go love on somebody! Peace, blessings, and joy... that real PB&J!

#BlackLivesMatter vs. #AllLivesMatter II

Burnsville Town Centre (Mass Choir)

The #BlackLivesMatter (BLM) movement isn't a movement meant to attempt to denounce the fact that #AllLivesMatter. Unfortunately, all voices that speak out against BLM attempt to denounce their movement. Rather than jump on a bandwagon, and join the ignorance, why not listen, learn, and then look long into the matter, and speak lovingly?

First things first; I'd like to address the selfish naysayer's mentality. The selfish naysayers react based on their own fear, their own hate, and their own stereotype. A selfish naysayer isn't the rational debater that has studied with due diligence. The selfish naysayer simply sees a movement, or an action, and jumps in head first with the selfish, "what about me?!" They are worse than the spoiled only child. "Look at me, look at me," then gets upset when everyone else looks momentarily to assist the child next to it that's lets fortunate, and comes out of an abusive home. Well for the record it's not about me, it's not about you, it's about us. I don't exclude you, why exclude me?  BLM isn't "meant" to take away from #AllLivesMatter (ALM), or for that matter any other lives that matter. Rather than go out kicking, and screaming about how wrong BLM is why not include them in ALM? That's what the BLM is about. Not exclusion, but to be included and recognized. Therefore, why not support ALM or even #BlueLivesMatter? I'll tell you why you can but need to do so carefully, because then someone says, "What about #RedLivesMatter," and someone else in my Native American tribe becomes offended. Then what? All I ask is that you don't jump on the hate bandwagon.

News flash... not everyone in brown skin hates everyone in skin that's different to theirs. I can, and will speak from experience on that one. Not everyone in brown skin feels that everyone with a different skin tone hates them based on their skin tone either. I also speak from experience on that one.

To conclude this segment let's look at the rainbow of matters. Different is not so bad. How would an all black rainbow look after a rain? How about an all white rainbow? Do I recognize difference? Of course. Difference/uniqueness is beautiful. Do I see a reason to hate because of identity in difference? No. Most of my friends that have very racist tendencies (not necessarily racist just have a few tendencies), will say that they don't see color. Which I dare say isn't true, or it wouldn't be mentioned in the first place. However, one of my friends of non-color, but color (contradictorily speaking based on her Native American Indian ancestry), once explained that she most definitely recognized color. She spoke of the rainbow. She loves rainbows. "What is a rainbow without color L," she asks me? She was absolutely correct! What is a rainbow without ROYBGIV?! I don't want my favorite color in the rainbow excluded when I look at Gods' promise. However, I also do not see the rainbow being as beautiful with only violet in it. Would I dismantle the rainbow, or the movement? No. Just for the record this is not a LGBT message either, it's about the #LivesThatMatter Movement. I'm not saying that the lives in the LGBT community don't matter either. I am saying we can talk about the oranges after we wrap up the apples.

Thanks and blessings.

#BlackLivesMatter vs. #AllLivesMatter

                  My spiritual brother

It's sad that most religious or race relations discussions transition into arguments, that eventually become a matter of disagreement. Disagreement then becomes the focus of who's right, and who's wrong rather than an agreement of any kind. At that point most all hope, and compromise, or even agreeing to disagree or banished. Hopefully the disagreeing doesn't lead to acts of belligerence, but instead creates a desire, or a drive that would lead the parties involved to hold an open mind in order to discover a rational way of resolving the matter.

This blog is to discuss the topic of "Black Lives Matter," or referred to as (BLM), for the remainder of this blog. This blog will discuss why it is the movement began, why the movement is meant for good, and why others see that it is not. It is imperative to stay focused, and remain on topic. No one likes confusion, and it is just as unfair as it is impractical to compare apples to oranges.

Again, this is a discussion that invites critical thinking in the area that says; #BlackLivesMatter (BLM). Critical thinking that shows both sides. Why is it that some see that BLM is so repugnant to some people that those same people attempt by any means necessary to refute it. It will also demonstrate how the BLM movement is critically important to some communities more so than others.

I will begin with a question:

Does the BLM movement negatively affect those opposing it? If so how?

Remember, please stay on topic... no apples and oranges, and please, please, please... think before you speak.

Peace, blessings, and joy... That real PB&J

Where Are You Getting Your Info?

Where Are You Getting Your Info?

Would you ask a Yamaha fanatic about whether the Honda is faster than the Yamaha? Would you ask a finance manager if you can afford the faster Yamaha, when he hasn't had anyone in his office for a month? Would you ask the sales person which bike is the baddest, when he's led every potential buyer to the one bike in the corner covered in dust? If you answered yes to any of those please reread this paragraph.

Would you ask Fox News, CBS, NBC, or NPR about which candidate to vote for? Would you ask anyone that badmouths every candidate in a particular party without even knowing who they are, who to vote for? On that note, I am a bit let down by Franklin Graham now. Ben Carson is not perfect, but I don't see him being any less a Christian than either of the Presidents Bush. I know that sounds funky, but those of you with smarts will get it. Now Franklin Graham is saying he will not endorse a Republican, and that voters should vote for the person that represents Christian values the most. Mr. Carson has his biography and movie based on his life in Christian book stores started by Mr. Graham's father and he will not endorse him. Hmmmm... And then there's the Madonna of candidates, "Drop the Bush," Jeb we all know who you are, where you come from, and who's now not admitting to follow.

Would you ask a person down and out, that's barely making it, or not even making it to help you figure out your finances? Wait Tyler Perry has a "movie," "The Family That Preys," with a former financial expert advising a single grandmother about her investments doesn't he? That's your one exception, if that one applies, even. Moving right along...

Are you looking for a new church? Would you ask an atheist to assist you with that? Would you ask a protestant about a mosque, or a kingdom hall to attend, or vice-versa? Have you tried the spirit to see that its true? (I John 4:1-5) Pick a version of the Holy Bible, it'll all bring you to the truth if you seek it. Because if you seek His guidance and not an unreliable source, you'll find the proper answer. Find your source, and then you'll find your answer.

Would you seek a person that has no life, messes in the lives of everyone else because of it, to help you find your place in life? I think these are all very valid questions. I am looking for a rational nation to not look to take our country back, but instead to take it forward!

Until then... I'll be riding my R1 as an independent to the polls, and as a Christian to the open air meeting on the mountain soon if any of you care to join me.

Three Cities, Three Weeks, Three Part Blog

The walk through practices can say just as much about a team as one in full pads. You can see the swagger, or lack of in walk through practices.

This session displayed younger players that were humble, and some veteran players that looked like they could care less.

Veteran linemen looked disgruntled, while the younger linemen looked concerned, not anxiety ridden, but definitely concerned. The backers were the typical  smiling faces that most are. So there's no confusion they're not friendly smiling faces, but rather menacing smiling faces that translate to say, "Welcome to Hades, my names Satan, and I'll be roasting your buns all day today... order 25 up!" The corners and db's were relaxed and having fun, laughing among themselves stretching and walking through drills. They did so until practice began to wind down.

A few rookie linebackers signed (mandatory) autographs after practice, while a few other up coming players stayed after to enjoy the fans. Jalen Collins the former LSU standout was one such player, and gracious enough to stay after for a bit. It has been rumored that Jalen had a few woes in his collegiate days, and that his camp was not his strongest showing. However, I feel based on his character, that Jalen is confident, and happy, and will be a round for a while.

Closing on the coaches corner. Coach Quinn wore his "all business face," only being chummy with one person that he knew from his prior coaching experience. They looked poised to have a great year in camp and started the season off that way. What's happened, or is happening since? Time has told and will continue to tell.

50 Shades of Brown

One of the most serene places on earth is in the timbers find. I walk the grassy trail until the walk is my climb. Then when the climb is finished I've found my spot. Yes, that one where it's warm and gets hot. Where the rock is cool, and often damp, where only the sun has dared to tramp. The sun has never shone in such a way as today. My thoughts are left here, my mind is clear. As the sun caresses my brown skin, the wind whispers in my ear, other than the chickadee, she is all I hear. This is my spot, it was made just for me. Where my skin goes from caramelized cane, to a deeper hue of butter pecan underneath the Spruce Pine tree. This is my spot my 50 is brown, if you seek my Father, you might catch me around.

Three Cities, Three Weeks, Three NFL Camps II

Part two brings the Lexus TravIS300 to a halt in Flowery Branch, Georgia. Home to Atlanta's Dirty Bird Training Camp. As I had mentioned in the first of my NFL Training Camp blogs, we're in the South visiting camps. The southern region of the finest nation in the world, and home to footballs, Falcons Nation.

This blog, like the first, will also cover culture, cuisine, and gridiron craziness. I'll give you a look at an NFL following from a birds eye view. A Falcons view to be exact.

Culture:
Southern Hospitality; where the rainbow meets the sun, where manners are a way of life, and it's all instilled in a Southerner before they learn to walk.

The Falcons culture was much like the culture found in Redskins territory. A nicely collaborative gathering of ethnic diversity where the only language spoken was "Dirty Bird!" One thing different was that there didn't appear to be as many women at the Falcons training camp, but there seemed to be more couples. Regardless of the single female populous, people were friendly enough, and no rival fans bothered showing up at Flowery Branch.

The day that I chose to attend was a gorgeous, mid eighties type of day. The sun had shone brightly all morning, but was not overbearing. The event was well planned, and organizers prepared to make this a memorable occasion for its fans. Trolleys transported people from the lot to the gate, which also helped with keeping the day as cool as possible. However, just in case it was a bit too hot still, and people needed a proper distraction from the heat, the facility greeted all of their supporters with sprinklers, and the teams motto at the front gate, "Rise Up!"

First things first... Food, and drink! No rain to put a damper on this camp, so folks looked for drinks over food, and organizers had it covered. $1.00 water, or Gatorade! GoTravvy was already liking this training camp. Cue the commercial voice, "but wait, there's more!" Not only was the Falcon faithful blessed with a 20 oz. dranky drank for a buck, but flame kissed burgers, with all the trimmings were only a dollar to match! It's worth the trip just to get the yard burger and drink.

The food was very reasonable, the souvenirs on the other hand, well let's just say that the NFL is proud of its gear. $40 and up for a t-shirt is not the way to go if you're an everyday average Joe. But the staff was friendly. So you're paying a great deal for service with a smile.

Go Travvy has camera, will travel.

More pics, and players to come.

Three Cities, Three Weeks, and The Thrill of the NFL

Traveling, training, and taking it all in, it’s an experience that yours truly, The Imperfect Football Fan, will not soon forget. What is involved when traveling to three cities, in three weeks, visiting three NFL training camps? Culture, food, and fun. Lets look at the football culture first. All of the areas visited were in Southern cities, so you’d expect Southern hospitality, right? Let’s start in Richmond.

Richmond, Virginia, Bon Secours Training facility, and its a closed practice session between the Washington Redskins, who hosted the Houston Texans, it is also a session that one had to win tickets for. Guess who won tickets? Yes, the imperfect one. First prayer answered. Then the bonus; everyone that received an invitation from the imperfect football fan was available to meet for the practice, second prayer answered. It was overcast, and the rains come shortly after sunrise, third prayer not answered, but every prayer unanswered is unanswered for a reason.

The rains came, and people sought shelter everywhere, and just as many weathered the storm, as those that fled. The weather did create a bit of disappointment besides getting wet, however. This so called closed session was not as meaningful as it was set up to be. The rain caused a rush in staff as well as fan. Fans crowded a very broad, and open gate, where attendants loosely checked tickets, and threw their portion of the tickets into plastic, 50 gallon barrels. The imperfect one had four tickets, and was accompanied by three people. Two of the party of four walked right past the gatekeepers, and were not checked at all. The imperfect one had all four tickets, and was not asked by one attendant to whom each ticket belonged. So much for feeling lucky, special, privileged, or whatever adjective you prefer here. It was somewhat of a let down to know that a good portion of the crowd could have slipped through without having any credentials at all.

The rain turned a few away, so it wasn’t as packed as it could have been, but Redskin faithful, for the most part showed their allegiance to their team. #HTTR (Hail to the Redskins), had meaning, because the sidelines were shoulder to shoulder with Skins faithful. GEICO did their part in playing hero for the day for a few hundred as they handed out ponchos for the rain soaked crowd, that signed up to be added to their mailing list. Unfortunately, they went from hero to zero in approximately 20 minutes, as they ran out of ponchos. People tore up their information entries as they discovered they were not going to receive a poncho.

Once inside we discovered that the fans surrounding us were pretty amazing, and amazingly enough the fans were all, pardon the expression here, somewhat a tribe of one. There were more folks of African ancestry than not, but for the most part, all ethnicity was dismissed because this culture represented one nation, “Redskin Nation.” The people experience was a very good one.

On the field the marshals were in control, watching the fence lines carefully, and were very professional about it. The coaching staff did not make themselves very available for their fans, but they were well focused on their team, and with good reason, but first, let’s look at cuisine before we get to the teams action on the playing field.

A few restaurants from the greater Richmond area catered the event. We chose barbeque. The food wasn’t bad, and the serving wasn’t so skimpy that you felt as if you had only an appetizer, but it was far from a grand serving. It also wasn’t as warm as it could have been. However, on the flip side of that, I would give them 3.5 stars out of 5 considering it was a soggy day.

Ok back to the facility, and field. The facility is not yet complete, and most training facilities are not blessed with accommodations and luxuries that make one feel as though they’re in the box seats at their favorite teams stadium, but the proximity and closeness to the field make you feel very much a part of the team.

The players were fired up, and ready to practice, and the skill players all looked sharp. The most closely watched figure Robert Griffin III, or more affectionately know as RG3, by his fan base, was on point. His touch passes were picture perfect, and his deep ball was excellent as well. Then… came the first fight!

ESPN had announced that Mr. Golston had removed or had his helmet removed, and that sheer and utter chaos had broken loose at Bon Secours.

Unfortunately, because of the rain, yours truly had his camera tucked away in a dry, and secure spot. There were two more fights that took place, and finally the two squads separated for good. A few Texans signed autographs on the the far side of the field, but most of the bigger names to refuge in the fieldhouse immediately after practice.

The sun came out at the end of practice, which was somewhat of a blessing. Had the sun shone as brightly all day as it did at the end of the day it most likely would have made us all miserable. The good thing about was that I was able to get a couple of shots in at the end of the day. Training camp would manifest what appeared to be a good team, a team ready for a young quarterback to lead them into a promising season. Mediocre is not what they expected, but I'm predicting another split between the Tribe, and the other Texans. .500 is possible, but I'm going out on a limb saying we'll see RG3 back at the helm before seasons end, and they'll finish at 7-8.
